It’s our last visit with Mindie Kniss this week, as she is moving to Chicago soon. We discuss her need for an organizer at the Meetup.com PDX Breakfast Club, the great breakfast sandwiches at Lovejoy Bakers, the New Orleans brunch at EaT Oyster Bar, and the upcoming BaconFest, hosted by PDX.FM.
Mindie is a life coach, by the way, and is taking her business with her. Track her down at Kniss Integrative Coaching.

We welcome John Gorham of Tasty ‘n Sons and Toro Bravo to chat with us about his beginnings in the industry and how his inspirations for food changed over the years.
By the way, I should have done a better job of talking up the menu. My bad — but here it is, for your reference.

It’s all about food cart breakfasts this week, as Brett Burmeister, aka dieselboi of FoodCartsPortland.com, joins me for a roundup of 10 or more breakfast options in cartland.
Brett is contributing to the second edition of my book, and we’re both contributors to a forthcoming book about carts in Portland, called Cartopia.
It was a real good time, and you can either download it here or click play below to hear it.

This week I welcome Liz Crain, the smart and charming author of the new book Food Lover’s Guide to Portland. It’s a tour of Portland by types of food, as well as an introduction to the people who make it and sell it: chocolate, ice cream, beer, wine, bakeries, meat, produce, ethnic markets, and so on.
It’s a cool book, and I hope you’ll consider getting it. Find out more, and where to buy it, on Liz’s website.
And speaking of books, don’t forget to place your order for the second edition of Breakfast in Bridgetown; it’s only $12, due October 1, with free shipping at this link.
As for the podcast, download it here or click the play button below. All the shows are available from the “Radio Show” link on the left side of this site.

By day, he’s the postmaster in Cornelius, Oregon. By weekend, he’s a dedicated breakfast-goer and a member of the Breakfast Crew. In fact, he and his wife Maria (who’s also my tea consultant) are the first people to go from readers of the book to members of the research crew.
He’s Kerry Jeffrey, and today he and I talked all about breakfast on the eve of his and Maria’s 100th breakfast outing on Saturday. I think this means they’re just about as nuts as I am!
Download the show here, or click the play button below.
All previous podcasts are here, and you can pre-order the second edition of the book here. And don’t forget to come out to the Woodstock Parade and Festival Saturday 10 to 2, and say howdy at the Stumptown Scribes booth.
Enjoy the lovely day!

This week was just about the most fun I’ve had in 33 podcasts. E.D. Mondaine and Antoine Tolbert from Po’Shines came down to preach the gospel of soul food. We’re talkin’ fried chicken, sweet potatoes, peach cobbler, fried okra, blackened catfish … and all the love that’s at the intersection of food, music, community and the church. This show just tickled my Southern soul.
Download it here or click Play below to listen. And check out the other 32 shows here.

(Photo contest — get your pictures in the book — is right here)
Mindie Kniss visits us again this week, and she has a question for everyone. Actually, we both had one question — what do Brazilians eat for breakfast? — and by golly, some listeners actually responded! It took 32 shows, but we have found life out there.
Anyway, Mindie had another question. She is moving to Chicago this fall and wants to get some good Oregon stuff done this summer, including Portland breakfasts. So she wants to know where to go. I make a few suggestions in the show, but let’s hear from you, too! Post a comment here with a suggestion and your reasoning, or maybe even tell her what to order.
Otherwise, it’s 30 minutes of goofy, splendid fun, with a take-down of a local breakfast place. Download here, or click play below. And as always, all the shows are listed here.

First, if you’re looking for the contest — a chance to get your photos published in my book — click here.
Today I had a chat with futurist Mick Mortlock, who is also a good buddy of mine and a member of my crew of male breakfast friends, aka The Fellas. (See the Fat City or Marcos Cafe chapters of my book for more info).
Mick, whose website is ImaginationGardener.com, says he likes to look into the future for positive outcomes that are possible, then rally people to work together and bring them into fruition. Along those lines, we talked about Portland’s chance to be a mecca for sustainable food, a magnet for the rich and famous, and even the future home of a certain couple now living in Washington, D.C.
So, download the file here, or click the play button below. And here is a list of all 31 shows so far.

This week my guest and I had a mixup in communication, and she didn’t show up. Actually, she did, but she was outside the building texting me while we were doing the show, and I had my phone off. Oops! In my defense, she was late as heck. Good thing she’s really cool and not pissed off at me … as far as I know.
So here it is, Episode 30, a random and semi-solo affair, featuring my drop-in special guest Sabrina from Morning Submission. We talked bloody marys and cutting down trees and other random things. Seriously.
You can also hear it by clicking Play below. And all previous episodes are linked from here.

What a fun chat today with Kat Vetrano, the food writer for the Portland State Daily Vanguard. We talked all about two of my favorite topics, food and writing, and covered some of her favorite breakfast places. Good times!
We mentioned a story she wrote called “The Morning After,” so here’s a link to it. Here’s a another one to the rest of her Vanguard stuff; she also has a website and Twitter feed.
We also covered a little “contest” I have going on. It’s really more like using a prize — free copy of my second edition when it comes out — to elicit feedback on this question. Deadline is June 10, and everybody who offers feedback (via comment on the site or email to Paul@BaconandEggsPress.com) is entered for a chance to win.
As always, click “play” below to listen, or here to download. And here’s a list of all the shows I’ve done.
