Mercury Trashes The Original

BreakfastGuy on Aug 14th 2009

Can’t say I disagree too much, but I did enjoy my meal there — if that makes any sense at all. According to the Mercury, though, the “Dinerante” is “gimmicky, showy, and plagued with problems.” Ouch.

The New York Times recently called it “a super-designy restaurant that wants you to think it’s just a hipster diner.”

Notice a pattern?

Country Cat: Now Serving Brunch Daily!

BreakfastGuy on Aug 10th 2009

This is seriously great news. Whenever people ask me the usual question — What’s my favorite place? — my response is the Stepping Stone for ambience and memories, Zell’s for the Portland Experience, and Simpatica or Country Cat for plain and simple best food.

Well, now the Country Cat is doing brunch daily, 9 to 2. They say the weekday menu is a little smaller than the weekend menu, but don’t let that stop you.

Now, go forth and eat their Cast Iron Skillet Fried Chicken and Toasted Pecan Spoonbread, dressed with Maple Syrup, with a side of greens, for $12, and you will know brunch pleasure.

Find ‘em at 7937 SE Stark. Phone is 503-408-1414.
